Hey, I am Hiya — I write indiscriminately (but am partial to the history of science) and am curious about the idea of engineering experiences and things that evoke wonder!

My Substack: Mundane Beauty
I grew up in Ahmedabad, India but recently moved to New York City where I am a senior at Barnard College, Columbia University. I am on the tail-end of an incredibly fun double major in Neuroscience and History.
Since last summer, I have been working as a research assistant to Mark Mazower on his historical trade-book (Forthcoming; September 2025). Equally, I am spending time building a thesis on the foundations of mathematical aesthetics in the late modern period, with a particular focus on Henri Poincaré.
The summer before, I had the opportunity to work at the intersection of my interests as a literary research assistant to Matthew Stanley on a long-form work in the history of science. Before that, I focused on building an asynchronous all ages course on metacognition or learning how to learn for Kubrio, an online education platform. And prior to that, I was fortunate enough to be able to drop out (with support from Emergent Ventures) and take a gap year in San Francisco following my first stint at university, forming my own thesis of what learning should look like.
I would love to chat (or grab coffee if you happen to be in New York) — please do reach out! I am very happy to get emails on jainhiya1212@gmail.com, or you can send me a DM on Twitter :)
